Singer-songwriter Jackie Bristow got going early
and shows no sign of stopping. Her latest recording, the haunting and
beautiful CRAZY LOVE, demonstrates her folk-pop vocals, smart
songwriting style and seductive sound. Inspired
by a music teacher, Bristow began singing in choir at age 8 in Gore, a
small rural town on the southern end of New Zealand’s South Island and
home to that country’s country music Golden Guitar Awards. Encouraged
by their grandmother, Jackie and her younger sister, Katrina, swept up
a string of the awards, and by age 14, The Bristow Sisters were
seasoned professionals and were performing across the island. Three
years later, Jackie had left high school and enrolled at the
Invercargill Polytechnic Music School, where she hooked up with other
local musicians and began writing songs and singing in pop and cover
bands around the country. In 1995, when
Bristow moved to Australia, she worked as a nanny by day and a singer
in often-lonely clubs by night, but she was developing as a songwriter
(and co-writer) and performer and recording her own material. Five
years later, a copy of a demo reached the desk of Australian music
industry exec Michael Gudinski, who signed her to write for Mushroom
Music and record for Liberation Records. She and Gudinski released
several hit singles and a well-received debut album, THIRSTY, in
Australia and New Zealand. Bristow then
went on to record a stunning album through Australian independent label
Craving Records, CRAZY LOVE, 12 songs of her own (two co-written with
Mark Punch) that sparkle with soul, authenticity and emotion. Her
songs have been used repeatedly in Australian film and television hits
such as “The Secret Life of Us,” “Home and Away” and “Go Big,” and they
have been recorded on more than half a dozen compilation albums. Her
song, “This is Australia,” recently won Tourism Australia’s Song
Competition and has been featured in a worldwide promotional campaign.
She has toured with Madeleine Peyroux (January 2007), Art Garfunkel,
Renee Geyer, Mark Seymour and Capercaille; in 2006, she opened a tour
for Daniel Lanois, who crowed from stage, “She sings like a bird!” Bristow
has performed live and been interviewed on more than a dozen network
and pay-TV programs in Australia and on radio stations throughout
Australia and New Zealand. She and her work impress the media, with one
writer calling her “truly talented… [She] captivates an audience
musically, lyrically and, unquestionably, in delivery.” For more information, visit www.jackiebristow.com, www.cravingrecords.com, www.mcguckinpr.com
