Jenny Whiteley

Jenny Whiteley started her music career as a singer and bass player in the Canadian bluegrass band Heartbreak Hill, which earned a Juno nomination in 1998 for its only recording. After the band broke up, Whiteley released a self-titled solo album
in 2000, which won a Juno award. She also sang harmonies on the Sarah Harmer hit song, "Basement Apartment," and showcased at CMJ in New York City, SXSW in Austin, Texas, and the North American Folk Alliance.

Earlier in her career as an acoustic singer-songwriter, she often shared festival stages with guitarist Steve Dawson, and they agreed to record Whiteley's second solo album together. In addition to having a baby, Whiteley decided to hold her initial recording sessions at her parents' house, in order to be comfortable. After finishing the mixes in a studio (and a hotel room), Hopetown was released in 2004.

Whiteley and her band are also scheduled to appear in the TV movie Suburban Madness. Amy Millan (a member of Stars and Broken Social Scene) recorded Whiteley's "Baby, I" and Aengus Finnan recorded "John Tyrone." Whiteley and her family live north of Kingston, Ontario.
